The Magnetic Fields’ 69 Love Songs will be performed in it’s entirety tonight (Valentine’s Day) at the Northside Tavern in Cincinnati, OH and I will be joining Royal Holland for 5 songs.
69 Love Songs is an epic collection of songs with titles like “Let’s Pretend We’re Bunny Rabbits”, “I’m Crazy for You (But Not That Crazy)” and “Underwear.” I love it and am thrilled to be able to see it performed by so many great musicians: Margaret Darling, Ricky Nye, Tonefarmer, Mack West, Roger Klug & The Snarks, The Ready Stance, Little Lights, The Orchard Brothers, for algernon, Optigrab w/ Eric Diedrichs, Maurice Mattei, Heartachoke, Brad Stenz (from MOTH!)
The event is called The Night I Can’t Forget and proceeds will benefit the ALS Association. Their website, thenighticantforget.com features a great quote from the Magnetic Fields’ Stephin Merrit, “69 Love Songs is not remotely an album about love. It’s an album about love songs, which are very far away from anything to do with love. It’s a stunt. It’s audacious, and you think it would be awful, but it isn’t. It’s too big to be silly. If it were 40 love songs, that would be silly. Sixty-nine is grandiose.”
