TBS Just for Laughs 2011: Tuesday Picks

TBS Just for Laughs Chicago officially kicks off tonight with three events featuring a film, local stand-up and musical weirdness.

The Gene Siskel Film Center is presenting Losing Control at 7:45pm. Losing Control is described as “a quirky romantic comedy about a female scientist who wants proof that her boyfriend is the one.” According to the Siskel’s website, executive producer Jeffrey Loeb, and tentatively, actress Kathleen Robertson will be present for discussion.

If stand-up is what you’re looking for, head to The Beat Kitchen at 8pm for Chicago Underground Comedy presents: Secret Big-Time Local Comedy Showcase featuring Beth Stelling, Bully in the Hallway, Candy Lawrence, James Fritz, Sean Flannery, Tony Sam and Victor Varnado. If you’ve ever wondered what the local stand-up scene has to offer, now’s your chance to find out.

I interviewed Beth Stelling a few days ago. You can check that out here: Let’s Get Serious with Beth Stelling

Your final option tonight is musical comedy from Tim Minchin at Lincoln Hall. Minchin is making his Chicago debut (he’s Australian) with shows at 10pm each night of the festival (except Sunday).

TWIX® Presents: TBS Just for Laughs Chicago runs June 14–19, 2011. A full schedule and list of performers can be found at www.justforlaughschicago.com.
