I gave my MidPoint schpeel in the previous post with my Thursday picks so I won’t repeat myself here. The big draws for Friday are Surfer Blood and Ted Leo but I’m also excited about Silverghost —I booked them to play Earthquakes a few months ago and they were great! They have an EP that you can download for free from RCRDLBL: The Equine Lips EP
There were definitely a lot of conflicts for Friday night—especially the 11:30 slot—and it might be hard to check out the bands at the (relatively isolated) Southgate House without missing a lot of other stuff so we’ll see what happens.

Living in Chicago has exploded my live music options—it’s impossible to see all the bands that come through here that I really don’t want to miss—but that isn’t stopping me from being excited about coming back to Cincinnati for the MidPoint Music Festival.
Something like 270 bands are playing over the course of three nights. Most of the venues are within walking distance so it’s easy to jump around and see multiple bands in one time slot if one venue is too crowded or you’re just not feeling it. Here’s what I’m looking forward to on Thursday, September 23, 2010.

The MidPoint Music Festival starts tonight and new this year is the integration of the Lite Brite Film Test. Started in 2004, Lite Brite has been a multi-media, film and music event held each Summer at the Southgate House, bringing bands like Mission of Burma, VHS or Beta, Man Man, Film School and Jimmy Eat World as well as short film collections and independent feature films like Dig! and Brothers of the Head. Last year, John Waters even performed.
Combining with MidPoint means that there will be films presented at the Contemporary Arts Center during the festival and Saturday’s PROJECTMILL Stage at the Contemporary Arts Center—featuring The Dø, You You’re Awesome, The Subjects and Geographer—is also being advertised as a component of Lite Brite.
Lite Brite has always been nice to Pizza Infinity—we provided live video accompaniment for Danielson in 2006 and in 2007 we had our own video showcase. This year they will be screening two Pizza Infinity short films, Questionable Taste and Robot Love from Another World.

I mentioned in a previous post that Pizza Infinity competed in the Columbus 48 Hour Film Project a few weeks ago. The result is Questionable Taste, a closer look at two nutritional entrepreneurs and their unusual approach to solving world hunger.
The 5-minute short film won an “Audience Choice” award at the Best of Columbus 48HFP.

Finally, we have an answer to the age-old question: Love or Money?
This film was made for the 48 Hour Film Project International Shootout in January 2009 and will be screened during MidPoint at the 2009 Best of Underneath Cincinnati awards show. They’ll also be screening Robot Love From Another World and both short films will be eligible for awards that night.

Koala Fires will be performing at the MidPoint Music Festival on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 9:30pm. This will be our second year at MPMF. Our showcase will be at the Courtyard Café this time, which we’re really excited about based on the super-fun shows we watched there last year.
Below is a poster that I designed for the event:
