June 2010 Earthquakes

June 12, 2010

Earthquakes is a dance night at Mayday (formerly the Gypsy Hut) in Cincinnati’s beautiful Northside neighborhood on the final Saturday of each month.

This month’s musical guests are two Michigan bands—Lightning Love and Silverghost!

Lightning Love are from Ypsilanti, Michigan and I fell in love with them when I saw them open for Bad Veins at the Northside Tavern in (I think) April of 2009. Since then they’re returned to Cincinnati for MidPoint and played NYE at the Northside Tavern (also with Bad Veins).  They are one of my favorite bands so I am super excited and happy that they are playing this event.

Silverghost are an analog synth/electric guitar duo from Detroit that, as they describe it, make “candied crime for the ears!” They have an EP that you can download for free at: RCRDLBL.com

Koala Fires + Wolf Ram Heart

February 8, 2010

Koala Fires have two shows coming up with Columbus-based Wolf Ram Heart. We’ll be joining them at the Ravari Room in Columbus on Friday, February 19 and then the next night, Saturday, February 20, we’ll play together at Mayday in Cincinnati.

Here’s a little bit about Wolf Ram Heart from their MySpace page:

“Formerly known as The Black Canary, the group achieved local and regional notoriety by being voted by the local Columbus music press as a future Band to Watch in 2007. The band also participated in the 2007 Virgin College Mega Tour, was a CMJ artist of the week for March 2007, was included on the June 2007 CMJ New Music Sampler and showcased at the 2007 CMJ Music Marathon in NYC.”

Koala Fires Listening Party

December 3, 2009

Come hear the new Koala Fires album a few weeks before the official release during Mayday Happy Hour with drink and food specials.

If you haven’t been to Mayday yet, this would be a good time to check out Northside’s newest bar and sample one of their Gourmet Hot Dogs (including vegan options). I highly recommend the pretzel buns.

Then, after happy hour, stick around for Drunk Bastard Bingo with the lovely Evie. Win stuff. It’s fun. It’s free!
